Pike on The Fly

The pike have been biting this year! Spring time brought up some larger ones including a 42" one that broke my rod. New gear as well that has been amazing and made fishing a lot better. I have used my 3-Tand reel enough now to fully say that it is my favorite all around large arbor reel that I have fished with. The lakes that I did get to in Canada and the more local ones all seemed to fish good at first but with the warmer winter the fish moved deep faster then in years past. Hopefully this fall will have some good days!

Winter Brown Trout

Got out today! Got out and caught some fish today! The fall was a time of very slow fishing for me so to have a warmer day in January that actually produced two nice browns was a welcoming thing! The last two winters have been so harsh making it very hard to fish. The Simms Pro Dry Jacket was super cozy and kept me nice and warm. There is a winter advisory out now and its a blizzard last I looked out of the window. I will remember this day!

Canada Day 4!

Sad to wake up this morning. I think this is one of my favorite places on earth. Not just for the fishing but there is something about the trees, air, wildlife, and solitude that combined together is the biggest mental revival I have experienced. Early morning pike produced 1 last fish that was 24 inches but fought like some 30+ in ones I have caught in the past. The fish in this lake are healthy and by no means skinny!

After heading in from the morning fishing everything was locked up and put away. After reaching the parking spot and loading up I fished a spot that I hadn't realized about before. Where a small creek used to be a beaver had dammed it up creating the perfect pond... Full of brook trout. So the last fish that I caught in Canada were a hand full of (once again healthy) brook trout. Great way to end the trip! Heading out we stopped at a restaurant for an amazing lunch and coffee and then made the awesome drive home along the coast of Lake Superior. The whole way home all I could think about was the spots on the lake I had been fishing the last couple days and of the next time I would be driving back up again.

Canada Day 3!

Day 3 of Canada brought on a few more Pike, lake trout, exploring a trophy brook trout lake with no success, and finding/fishing the perfect brook trout stream. So many times I find myself in places that seem "too good to have fish". I mean a spot that the water, landscape, and structure look so perfect that it seems to have everything but fish. The brook trout stream was the perfect example except it had a lot of fish. It seemed that as long as i was laying out casts there were fish to take the fly.

I cannot wait to get back to that spot and explore it even further into the woods. Another solid day.
